“This is our most collaborative record,” frontman Stu Mackenzie says of the new album, which arrives Aug. 9

King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard have announced their new album, Flight b741, which arrives on Aug. 9. It’s the first album they will release on their own label, (p)doom records.

The Australian group also shared the album’s first single, “Le Risque,” along with its music video, which finds the band strutting into and performing in an airplane hangar. It also marks the vocal debut of drummer Michael Cavanagh.

“We were super lucky to have been granted access to this amazing air hanger. The song was chosen because most of the Gizz guys had a singing part, and I was excited for the mic to be passed around at a fun, never-stopping pace,” director Guy Tyzack said in a statement about filming the video. “The day was super packed tight for what we wanted to get, and we didn’t want to cut corners. Our crew was tight, and the Gizz guys know how to put on a show. We were so tight for time that I didn’t pee all day.”

The prolific band’s 26th album, Flight b741, is the follow-up to their two 2023 albums, The Silver Cord and PetroDragonic Apocalypse, or Dawn of Eternal Night: An Annihilation of Planet Earth and the Beginning of Merciless Damnation.

Eschewing the concept albums they’ve recently culled, their new album was more “free and easy” in their approach. “This is our most collaborative record — the collaboration was occurring in the room, it was free, and everyone was bringing in songs and ideas,” frontman Stu Mackenzie said in a statement. “And we wanted to have as many lead vocalists as we could, and to pass the mic.”
