The weather in New York City is entering the stage where it’s so brisk and windy that my skin becomes chapped within minutes of going outside. Without fail, this dryness somehow sneaks up on me every winter and I’m left with itchy, extra-dry skin. Each year, I think, “If only there was a way to get ahead of this — or a product that could stop the dryness as soon as it comes — I’d be way more hydrated.”

As a beauty editor, I test upwards of 20 products a month, and nothing has remedied my dry skin as quickly as Nerra Dry Body Oil ($54, originally $72). As a spray-on body oil, it has a super quick application process, and it’s been instrumental in getting my skin from ultra-dry to hydrated in a matter of weeks.

About the Nerra Dry Body Oil

  • The formula includes botanical oils designed to firm, hydrate, nourish, and protect skin.
  • The spray application is mess-free.
  • It has a subtle jasmine wood scent.

What I Like About the Nerra Dry Body Oil

I’m a huge fan of Nerra products. The founder was inspired to create the brand from her cherished childhood memories of spending time at hammams (or bathhouses) while growing up in Tunisia. The brand focuses on a four-step ritual — cleansing, exfoliating, detoxifying, and moisturizing — with a product for each area, all of which I’ve tested and enjoyed for the last 11 months.

The body oil is the fourth step in the routine, and it’s my favorite. It’s formulated with hydrating olive and argan oils, along with fast-absorbing botanical oils like omega 3-6-9. It sinks perfectly into my semi-damp skin post-shower, and unlike other oils I’ve tried, it doesn’t leave any residue — allowing me to dress and go about my day right away.

I also love the subtle smell of jasmine wood, which isn’t overwhelming and leaves you feeling clean and satisfied. I’ve used the dry body oil for four consecutive months, and it truly is the only thing that calms my winter skin and keeps me from itching and drying out. The more I use it, the more hydrated my skin feels.

How to Use the Nerra Dry Body Oil

Post-cleansing, whether showering or bathing, simply pat skin dry and spritz on the Nerra Dry Body Oil. You only need a couple of spritzes for your whole body.

What to Consider Before Trying the Nerra Dry Body Oil

Because the dry body oil is part of a ritual, although it’s not a requirement, you might feel inclined to get the three products before it — which of course is a larger investment. The brand estimates that each four-product kit will last for two months, and already four months in, I still have more than half of my bottle left. So although it’s an investment, it’s absolutely worth it for the quality and size.
