In her memoir, “Open Book,” the singer said that she had two tummy tucks against her doctor’s orders after giving birth.
“The surgery wasn’t for weight loss,” she wrote. “I weighed 107 pounds when I planned the surgery. I wanted to get rid of the stretch marks and loose skin left sagging from my back-to-back pregnancies.”
Simpson’s doctor was concerned about the first surgery because of the toll that her alcohol and pill addiction had taken on her body. She ended up being fine, but she was still unhappy with the “loose skin that hung over my pants,” so she scheduled a second tummy tuck after, but this time, she had a few complications.
“I got an infection — colitis — and was vomiting so much I thought I was going to bust my sutures,” she said. The singer later admitted that she realized that plastic surgery wasn’t a cure-all for what was happening with her mentally: “Really, it’s about how you feel emotionally, and I was still just as hard on myself once those stitches were out.”
