The Virginia artist debuts on the late night show with his record-setting hit and a country ballad

Shaboozey debuted on Saturday Night Live by performing his hit single “A Bar Song (Tipsy),” along with his newer country ballad, “Good News.”

The former, from his May album Where I’ve Been, Isn’t Where I’m Going, recently tied the record (set by Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road”) for most weeks in the number one spot–19–on the Billboard Hot 100.

The song, which draws on J-Kwon’s 2004 song “Tipsy,” is nominated for Song of the Year and Best Country Solo Performance at the upcoming Grammys.

A Grammy nominee for Best New Artist, Shaboozey also performed “Good News,” which he released in November. It was his first original track since his album came out in the spring.

Upon learning of his six Grammy nods, Shaboozey described his reaction.

“This moment is something I’ve dreamt about ever since I started recording music. Even with that said, nothing could’ve prepared me for the moment when I finally heard my name called today!” he wrote on social media in early November.

“I’m thankful for everyone who ever believed and took a chance on me. For those who looked out for me when I needed it the most. I’m grateful for every couch I slept on, every no I was ever told, every heartbreak, and every tear I shed over achieving my dreams. I’m thankful for everything! I wake up grateful every single day. Never give up on your dreams.”

The Virginia native is appearing in Las Vegas next week before Miami’s Rolling Loud festival that weekend. His European tour begins in early March in Paris.
