As a beauty editor, I’ve tested hundreds, if not thousands, of products that promise to tame my thick, wavy, and often unpredictable hair. There’s a lot to love about the Native Shampoo and Conditioner Set. For starters, the value is unbeatable. I compared it to other bottles in my shower and my overflowing beauty cabinets and found that most clock in at about 10 ounces. This duo, on the other hand, is massive at 16.5 ounces per bottle. Translation: it’s going to last, especially because you don’t need to use much product to get a really thick lather. A small, quarter-sized amount is plenty to give my long hair a good wash.

Another thing I’m obsessed with is its coconut and vanilla scent. It reminds me of a tropical, coconuty sunscreen on a perfect beach day. I’m already excited for how the fragrance will make for a nice mental escape when winter hits here in Minnesota. But what sells me is Native’s commitment to ingredient transparency. The brand keeps its shampoo and conditioners simple with 10 ingredients or less in each formula, and the back of every bottle breaks down exactly what each ingredient is and what it does, all in easy-to-understand terms. This is honestly the way all ingredient lists should be.

I can’t forget to mention that the results of Native’s Shampoo and Conditioner Set were just as impressive. After shampooing, my hair felt thoroughly cleansed. I applied the conditioner from mid-lengths to ends, letting it sit for a few minutes while I shaved. Once I was out of the shower, I brushed through my hair with a wet brush, and it felt like I had just sprayed on a detangler. It was super easy to comb through, and my hair felt incredibly soft. After blow drying and straightening, it looked just as amazing — shiny, soft, and healthy.

One thing to keep in mind before adding this shampoo and conditioner duo to your cart: some users have noted issues with the pump mechanism. “The shampoo and conditioner both smell amazing.
