Stevie Nicks is feeling optimistic about the 2024 election. In a wide-ranging new interview with Rolling Stone, the legendary singer discussed her thoughts on Vice President Kamala Harris and why she’d be a great leader for the country.

Nicks’ new single “The Lighthouse” — which she just performed on SNL during her first appearance on the sketch series in more than 40 years — is an anthem for women’s rights, written immediately after Roe v. Wade was overturned. Nicks told RS that she sees herself as a lighthouse: “We are that light that goes out, and we bring the ships in so they don’t crash. We save lives every day. The way I feel about this upcoming election is that Kamala Harris is the lighthouse, too.”

Nicks also pointed out that while her recent “childless dog lady” photo didn’t explicitly endorse Harris, she’s showing her support with that “lighthouse” metaphor. “I don’t like the word ‘endorsing,’ but what I like is the fact that she is our great hope to save the world,” she said.

“I love the fact that she laughs,” she added. “I love the fact that she’s full of joy. I love the fact that she fell in love with somebody later in her life, and has a family and that they call her ‘Momala.’ I love that. I have great respect for her, being willing to take on such a serious job, with so much going on in the Middle East and Ukraine, which is my heart. It’s like, ‘I won’t have a real life now for a long time, so if I don’t call you, don’t take it personally.’”

Nicks also contemplated what Donald Trump will do if he loses the election. “He’s just going to get in his limo and go back to Mar-a-Lago and probably get another TV show, and have lots of great vacations and play a lot of golf,” she said. “He’s just going to have fun. Good god, he’s 78. It’s the opposite to ‘Girls Just Want to Have Fun.’ Nobody has to worry about him. He’s just going to go do what he does.”

In 1993, Fleetwood Mac reunited for Bill Clinton’s Inaugural Ball, performing “Don’t Stop,” which the new president had used as a theme song during his campaign. When RS asked if Nicks would perform for a Harris inauguration, she simply answered, “I might.” In the days leading up to the 2024 election, don’t stop thinking about Nicks’ answer.
