Taylor Swift’s Cat Eye Nails at the VMAs 2024

Must read

Was Taylor Swift hinting at something with her nails at the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards? The singer attended the event on Sept. 11, winning seven awards — Video of the Year, Artist of the Year, Best Pop, Best Collaboration, Best Direction, Best Editing, and Song of the Summer — but, ever the fan of easter eggs, may have used her look as a nod to something beyond music.

Ahead of the VMAs, which took place at the UBS Arena in New York, Swift officially endorsed Kamala Harris as her pick for president in a social media post that has now garnered 10.3 million likes and counting. In the Instagram post, which featured a professional photo of Swift and her cat, Benjamin, taken by photographers Inez and Vinoodh, she applauded Harris’s policies, saying, “she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them.” She signed her letter, “With love and hope, Taylor Swift, Childless Cat Lady,” as a reference to the infamous quote by Republican vice president nominee Sen. JD Vance from a 2021 interview where he said, “childless cat ladies” run the Democratic party.

Swift, reclaiming that title, used it as a sign-off for her message to fans — which, as reported by CBS News, resulted in over 337,000 visits to the voter registration site, Vote.gov, as confirmed by a spokesperson for the U.S. General Services Commission. In what seems to be a nod to that announcement, Swift’s VMAs nails featured a black polish shade and none other than a cat-eye design — a popular nail-art trend that creates a textured, velvet-like finish on the surface of the nail that mimics the look of a cat’s eye.

Cat-eye nails are created using special polish and a magnet, which disrupts the surface of the lacquer and creates the special effect. The manicure complemented the singer’s silver smoky eyeshadow look and grunge-inspired ensemble. The fact that the design also matched her haul of silver spaceman trophies was also a happy accident.

Take a closer look at Swift’s “cat lady” nails at the 2024 VMAs ahead.
