“I’ve been trained how to act, but it’s the most stressful thing in the world to me,” she said
Don’t expect to see this Feminomenon on screen anytime soon. Chappell Roan graced the cover of Interview Magazine on Monday, and revealed that she’s “freaked out” by film people and would rather not be an actor.
“I say this with peace, and love, and blessings. Actors are fucking crazy,” she said in the interview with SNL‘s Bowen Yang. “I get so freaked out by film people. I’ve been asked in the past couple of weeks, like, ‘You want the lead in XYZ?’ and I’m like, ‘No.’”
“I appreciate it, but literally, no. I originally started doing music because I wanted to get my foot in the door for acting, and then I moved to Los Angeles, and I was like, ‘Fuck that,’” she continued. “The industry is legitimately so scary, and it is so out of my control.”
Roan told Yang that she preferred being in the driver’s seat with her music, instead of having her life’s work in the hands of others who get to decide what she’ll do and when she’ll do it.
“I can put out music whenever I want,” she said. “I don’t have to wait for a casting director to be like, ‘It would be great if we cast you, and then we’ll decide your schedule for the next three months.’”
Roan later walked back her comments a little, admitting she would “maybe do a cameo” in a TV show or film. She also said it would have to be “really specific and really silly” for her to do it.
“I’ve been trained how to act, but it’s the most stressful thing in the world to me,” she said. “I would rather get arrested… because I know how to operate myself in jail.”
“It would really have to be the right thing and the right timing,” she added.
