Better Me Than You was originally set for release on Aug. 9

Big Sean announced the new release date for his upcoming album Better Me Than You in an emotional video shared to social media on Friday. The LP, previously set to roll out on Aug. 9, will now be dropping Aug. 30.

“The album is dropping this week,” said the Finally Famous rapper during an Instagram Live. “I appreciate my mom for being that guardian angel always giving me that advice. She really talked me through it for real. Like I said, I haven’t been sleeping a lot. I been giving this shit my all. I’m burned the fuck out. I’m tired. I do do this shit for the people that fuck with me.”

Sean also encouraged fans to check out his Soundcloud, where he may be releasing more songs. “An album ain’t enough, really. It’s so much music. Especially stuff that can’t get cleared or whatever — it’s like fuck it, we goin’.”

After a Kanye West fan allegedly leaked much of his album online last month, Big Sean announced his new LP the following day, and dropped single, “Yes.”

“The pressure of life (being a new Dad, being [an] artist that’s growing, being a human in development, etc) and embracing it all led me to a lot of clarity on what I needed to focus on to find a piece of happiness,” Sean wrote on X prior to the album announcement. “The past few years making this album have been a journey to say the least, but l’m just glad we finally here.”

Better Me Than You will be Sean’s first full-length solo album since 2020’s Detroit 2. He also released a collaborative project with Hit-Boy, What You Expect, in 2021, and worked with Eminem and Jessie Reyez earlier this year, while releasing the single “Precision” in March.
