Finding a comfortable mattress for yourself should be easy in theory — you’ve experienced quite a few sleeps before, so you probably know what level of firmness feels most supportive for your back and whether you run hot or cold. But compromising on a mattress with a partner is more of a challenge when you both have different needs. Personally, I deal with peripheral neuropathy issues, lower back pain thanks to my running obsession, and night sweats due to my anxiety medication, all of which can be somewhat alleviated with a good mattress to sleep on. Meanwhile, my boyfriend is . . . normal. (Lucky him.)
Since you can’t split a mattress in two, we were enticed by Purple’s online Mattress Quiz, which invites both you and your significant other to answer very specific questions about your sleep preferences. After considering everything from sleep positions to the issues that prevent you from immediately passing out the moment your head hits the pillow, Purple yields instant results catered to you both. There’s a best match, great match, and good match listed at a range of price points, and a detailed description that sheds light on the ways in which each mattress will tick your boxes. Ultimately, we were swayed by the Purple RejuvenatePremier Queen Mattress ($6,995, originally $7,495), which was available in our desired size, described as a medium-firm feel, and infused with technology that promises to relieve back, shoulder, and hip pain, while also regulating body heat throughout the night.
Ahead, read my review of the Purple RejuvenatePremier Mattress, and learn why taking the personalized quiz is obviously your best bet while shopping for a direct-to-consumer mattress from renowned brand Purple.

What I Like About the Purple RejuvenatePremier Mattress
I’ll admit it: when I first laid down on the mattress, I experienced a brief jolt of panic. Was this mattress too soft for me? I know that those who experience back pain should generally opt for something that feels medium-firm, and the pillowy Euro top was definitely a bit too cushiony for my liking when I pressed into it with my fingers. Ultimately, I was unsure if the multiple layers underneath would combine to offer enough support to keep my body straight and aligned, rather than cradled. However, after just three nights, I realized that the durability of this extra-thick mattress runs deep. The structure is stacked with so many different zones that meld to keep your limbs propped up with zero sinking, thanks to the design’s grid construction. So, if you’re worried about the same issues I was, think of that super-plush gray topper as just an added layer of luxe. After just a few nights of good rest, you’ll be convinced.
What to Consider Before Buying the Purple RejuvenatePremier Mattress
This mattress is on the higher end of Purple’s offerings. And just because it qualifies as luxe doesn’t mean it’s necessarily better for you and/or your partner. Purple offers three distinct collections — Essential, Hybrid, and Rejuvenate Luxe — all of which fulfill different needs. You’ll notice that when you take the online Mattress Quiz (results shown above), you’ll be provided with at least two models that satisfy your specifications, and all at a range of price points (The Essential PurpleFlex starts at $1,299 for a queen, for example). Also, note that you’ll absolutely need deep pocket sheets ($206, originally $229) for this mattress since it’s so thick, so your standard ones won’t cut it.
Reviews on this mattress are extremely mixed, with some customers claiming that their mattress began to sag, sink, and cause physical pain within months, and others deeming the mattress way too firm. Others love it and wouldn’t dream of going back to their old models. Ultimately, it’s most important to consult your doctor if you have back pain and remember that because all bodies are different, this mattress may work wonderfully for some, but not for others. My advice? Take advantage of the 100-night trial and do not forget to self-assess after that period so you can make any returns or exchanges necessary.
