Khalid Unveils ‘Melancholic Experience’ on Intimate Single ‘Adore U’

Must read

The singer describes the song as one of his “favorite records” to date

Khalid has released a new single, “Adore U,” via Right Hand Music Group/RCA Records. The lovelorn song was written by Khalid and produced by Digi and Justin Lucas.

“Adore U” follows the musician’s previously released single “Please Don’t Fall In Love With Me,” with both tracks heralding a new chapter for Khalid and his forthcoming third album, expected “soon.”

The single sees Khalid crooning about a romantic partner: “Started on two different pages/ I’m happy we made it/ You say that you’re broken/ I’m the one who saves it/ Thousand miles apart and God knows that I hate it/ Nothing hurts me more than when we’re separated.”

“’Adore U’ is one of my favorite records,” Khalid said in a statement. “It delivers a melancholic experience filled with ethereal melodies and soulful vocals setting the tone for my upcoming album that I can’t wait for my fans to experience.”

Khalid’s last album, Free Spirit, arrived in 2019. He has shared numerous singles since, including “Satellite” and “Skyline.” He also teamed up with Lukas Graham for “Wish You Were Here,” written alongside OneRepublic’s Ryan Tedder, and with Joe Jonas for “Not Alone.” Last year, Khalid shared “Softest Touch,” a song he said evoked “good vibes.”

During an interview Eddie Francis on Apple Music 1’s New Music Daily to discuss the one-off single last year, Khalid teased the arrival of a new album. He confirmed, “I’ll be completely honest, this album has some of the best music of my career on it.”

As for why he has been slowly releasing singles instead of dropping the entire album, Khalid explained that there’s a method to his madness.

“I wanted to get the songs out that I personally feel like are on the cusp of making the album and keep those ones that I know for a fact are going to make the album just in that chamber until I feel like the time is right,” he said. “I’ve been working on music for the past three years because I really want to be extremely particular with what sound I put out into the world when it comes to my album.”
