Reggaeton singer is scheduled to perform in new cities across the United States through September
Don Omar has cancer. The reggaeton superstar shared the health news in an Instagram post early Monday morning, though he did not reveal details about his diagnosis.
“Today I have it, but tomorrow I won’t have cancer,” Don Omar wrote on Instagram, captioning a photo of himself making a fist while wearing an Orlando Health hospital wristband. “Well wishes are well received. I’ll see y’all soon.”
He added in a hashtag: Fuck Cancer. Rolling Stone is out to Don Omar’s team regarding the singer’s diagnosis.
Don Omar’s comments were flooded with sweet messages from fans and fellow musicians alike. “My sweet kid, you are a warrior of thousands of battles and you will beat this one too for her position!” wrote Olga Tañón. “We overcome these obstacles because we overcome them in the name of Jesus,” added Farruko. “God bless you,” wrote Ryan Castro.
The news of Don Omar’s cancer diagnosis comes just a handful of days after the singer added tour dates to his U.S. Back to Reggaeton run with stops in Oakland, Seattle, Los Angeles, Newark, and Boston through August and September. He shared videos of dancers auditioning to be part of the tour over the weekend.
“The most special thing about today’s auditions is seeing that there are people who want to dream with me. Thank you to each and every one of you who gave it your all on the track! This second leg of the tour coming with everything,” he wrote on Saturday. It’s unclear if those shows will continue as planned.
“When you’re Don Omar and have era-defining hits like he does, your reign never ends,” read a Rolling Stone review of the musician’s March show in Los Angeles.
