From “Come Love Come” to “The Love We Almost Had,” Giddens dipped often into ‘Freedom Highway,’ her 2017 album titled after the Staple Singers song that was inspired by the 50-mile walk from Selma to Montgomery, Alabama, in March 1965 at the height of the civil rights movement.
